Robert Allen Counterman. Robert was 35 years old when he had his first seizure at work in April of 2014. Up until he had this seizure there were no telltale signs of sickness but from the day of the first seizure until the morning he passed away he suffered from seizures.
Robert was diagnosed with a brain tumor in April of 2014 which turned out to be 2 tumors that were malignent and so his journey began.
Two tumors were removed but one spot was not. He had targeted radiation and then later did a immunotherapy treatment with Yervoy to no avail. In 2015 the cancer had spread throughout his body. Robert then did another immunotherapy treatment, trying Keytruda this time to no avail. His body was betraying him. Robert passed away on July 7, 2015. It is hard to put into words the feelings that go through my mind thinking about all the what ifs and things that could have and should have been done differently.
Robert was as he always said “A Rare Snowflake”. He was so easy going, loving, compassionate, outgoing, stubborn and an all around good man. I am proud to call him my son.
Robert left behind a wife, beautiful 20 month old twin boys, mother and a large list of family and friends from the East Coast to the West Coast and everywhere in between.
We miss his beautiful smile and laughter daily, he is never far from my thoughts. I visit him frequently to take him flowers and say hi and tell him that I love and miss him.
Although it is too late for my son Robert, I sincerely pray that a cure for all types of cancer be found. Research and trials need to be more available and attainable to patients.
